HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Jim Gruver with the Downtown Hutch Rod Run is looking forward to the 17th annual event Friday and Saturday. Registration on Friday begins at noon.

"Everybody comes in a little different this year," Gruver said. "We are not pre reserving any parking spots so a couple of options. People can come in go where they want to park walk back to the registration and register or they can just get in line at registration."

More than half of the cars are there both days, though Saturday is the larger day and had almost 300 cars last year.

"The big thing on Friday is 6:00 p.m. is our annual cruise," Gruver said. "Everybody takes out leaves the event and a lot of them just drag up and down Main. A lot of them just go different places in town. It's kind of open to whatever they want to do. We have a little cruise route up and down Main, that back in the day used to be Sandy's a restaurant down there on North Main and that's kind of the turnaround spot and coming back, but the other thing that goes along with that this year is we are doing a poker run which will go to five different locations. Anybody that comes to the and signs up at the rod run that day can be registered and join the the poker run also, and there's a $500 cash prize for that poker run."

The parking spots do not hold from one day to the next, so registration at 8 a.m. Saturday will be important for those that want the best spot on the busiest day, and there will be plenty of trophies given away Saturday, as well.

"We've kind of slimmed it down a little bit now from what we used to," Gruver said. "I think we are at 26 different classes right now and each one of those classes then is divided up into different years, so number of trophies is I think 50 some different trophies."

Friday October 4th

7:00 a.m. to noon - Vendor/ Sponsor Set-up

Noon – Vehicle registration starts (16 E Ave A), Public Access Begins, Park Show Cars

Noon - 10:00 p.m.-THE PIT STOP- Craft Beer & Food Truck area opens @ 1st & Main

Noon - 10:00 p.m. FAB 4 Display (Ave A & Main St.)

Noon - 8:00 p.m. KS Masonic Lodge Raffle- 42 Packard Convertible ( Ave A & Main St.)

Noon - 8:00 p.m. Army National Guard (Ave A Main to North)

2:00 p.m. National Anthem

2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. - Car Judging Starts (On an As Ready Basis) * Registration closes at 5:00 p.m.

6:00 p.m. – Rod Run Cruise - Drag Main or join the Poker Run to Kansas State Fairgrounds.

7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. – James Pitts Band (1st & Main St.)

7:30 p.m. Movie in the Park (at dark) @ DCI Park 2nd & Main

10:00 p.m. Rod Run Event Ends (Overnight Security)
