Norman & Carol Bomer – 1962 Roadster
"This issue's Car of the Month is owned by one of the newest members of the CKCA. Norman Bomer and his wife, Carol purchased this cherry '62 in Canada 2 1/2 years ago for an undisclosed number of green stamps (dollars). The car, in most respects, is original with only a few exceptions. Instead of the original engine, it now sports a Corvette 350CID engine with a four barrel carb setting atop the high rise intake headers were added to supply that extra power. Chrome goodies fill the engine compartment adding the sparkling touch. The cars' body has stayed pretty much original and still even sports the fuel injection emblems that were tacked on at birth. The paint is about the only thing that has been changed. Norm calls the color an orange, but depending on how you look at the car, it could be called brown or even copper. No matter what color you may want to call it, it's still beautiful. The interior follows the same theme as the exterior in its stock appearance. Again, the only thing which has been changed is the color. The now white interior was definitely not available as an option in 1962. The white of the interior helps to set off the unusual exterior paint, making the final result a beautiful older vette. Raised white letter, Goodyear Polyglass tires add the finishing touches to the exterior appearance. While still in Canada, the car was entered in a Canadian Council of Corvettes Sanctioned Concours held at Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The car brought home second place honors in Class D. Classification is somewhat different in the Canadian Council from that of NCCC. Class A includes 73-76 year models; Class B is 68-72; Class C includes the mid-year 63-67 Stingrays, while Class D is comprised of the early year vettes from 58-62. Rounding out the classes in Canadian Council is Class E, which is the 53's-57's. Future plans for the '62 includes installation of the original fuel injection unit and new paint. Norman's paint plans call for repainting the car the same color. This car should be of particular interest to the members of CKCA as it is one of the oldest in the club. Not the oldest, but one of the oldest. If ya kind of look around the club, you'll notice that most of the vettes are the new body style. So, this "Golden Oldie" is super special. So what more can I say about the car? To really enjoy it you'll just have to look over it yourself sometime. Thanks Norm, for letting us feature this super '62 as our Car of the Month."
