ITINERARY:
We will meet at Atwoods/Kwik Shop at the corner of 30th and Lorraine in Hutch at 10:30 a.m. and depart at 10:45. We'll take the "long" way to Hesston and will have plenty of time to commune with the turtles at the arboretum (they're HUGE!) and take in the sights of this beautiful facility.
The highly-rated Hesston Bakery and Cafe is located right across the street, so if anyone's interested in a quick pick-me-up before we wander the grounds of the arboretum, we can mosey over the charming little footbridge and grab a mocha and croissant.
From there we'll journey up to McPherson, with the plan to arrive at the brewery by about 1 p.m. or so. For those members interested, Three Rings is offering us a tour of the brewery and its operations, which includes a tasting of all beers currently on tap and a Three Rings Brewery glass to take home.
The cost for the tasting and tour is $15 per person. The tour is limited to a maximum of eight people, so if you want to participate, please contact us ASAP.
In addition to their excellent pizzas, Three Rings Brewery will have the Los Portales Taco Truck on site beginning at 1 p.m., and is offering "Whiskey & Cigars" – luxury cigars available for purchase from Javier & Amber from Mobile Puro Humidor – on their new PLI/McPherson Party Patio at 7 p.m.
Non-alcoholic drink options are also available.

RECAP:
Great Drive & Dine yesterday with our CKCA homies to Dyck Arboretum of the Plains in Hesston and Three Rings Brewery in McPherson!
Upon leaving Atwoods we took several side streets, to avoid the traffic lights out on 30th, so we could do a "honk & wave" up E 33rd for our across-the-street neighbors Fred & Trish and Bob & Lu on our way out of town. Fun!
Last night we received the following text from good-neighbor Bob: "Good show, tell all thanks! In my youth I wanted either a Corvette or a T-bird, but I ended up with a '54 Chevy and four kids! Now that I can afford one, I can't get in or out of the dam things! Just ain't right, lol!"
The Medora Curves never disappoint (and THIS time we didn't have to follow a slowpoke with his turn signal on clear out to Buhler!)
Sorry about having to turn around and backtrack at the road closure on Cherokee Rd east of Inman. Denise and I pre-ran the route two weekends ago and everything was wide open. Lesson learned.
(A "road closed five miles ahead" signed posted on the outskirts of Inman would've been nice - I guess they weren't counting on a caravan of clean, shiny Corvettes venturing out here, and there was no way I was going to hall y'all cross-country on dusty dirt roads to get back to pavement.)
Many thanks to Randy Puls for suggesting we turn east on Arapahoe instead of heading all the way back to Buhler - this was a very nice stretch of road.
We had some cushion built into our schedule, and Jen up at Three Rings said, "No problem!" when we called from Hesston and said we were running a little late. "Get here when you get here," was her cheerful reply.
Very nice having the bakery and coffee shop right across the street from the arboretum (oral octane!), and everyone seemed to enjoy our casual walkabout out to "Turtle Point."
Tracy, in particular, had an absolute blast communing with (i.e. feeding!) the turtles, and kept up a constant stream of motherly banter with the dozens of turtles (and fish!) that swarmed Turtle Point. Henceforth, I think Tracy should be considered our club's resident turtle whisperer!
Three Rings Brewery was happening, with plenty of Corvettes (including Lee Spence's brother and his lady friend from McPherson in their yellow C5, former CKCA member Mike Lewis from Hutch in his white and blue-flamed C3, a stunning blue C8 and a rowdy '68 427 big-block Coupe) and many of us took advantage of the opportunity to tour the "inner sanctum" of the brewery operations with Brian Smith, co-founder and owner, and learn how fine craft beer is created.
From Three Rings Brewery's website: "Our 12th great-grandfather, Berend Brauer, was the Brewmaster in Einbeck Germany during the early 1500s. It is documented that Martin Luther’s favorite beer was beer from Einbeck. He was so fond of it that he had a cask of it at his wedding, which Berend was gladly able to provide for him.
"Martin Luther didn’t just enjoy beer, he was also a home brewer. Legend states that he had a grand stein that had “three rings” around it that he stated stood for the 10 Commandments, the Apostles Creed and Lord’s Prayer. He boasted that he could encompass all three with ease while drinking beer out of his grand, “three ringed” stein. This vision of Martin Luther enjoying our great-grandfathers beer from his three-ringed stein is the basis to our namesake.
"Three Rings Brewery will revive the brewing tradition that goes back in our family over 500 years. We will strive to create beers that are unique, flavorful and of the highest quality. Our taproom features 12 taps of year-round, seasonal and small batch brews made with the finest ingredients."
Javier and Amber from Mobile Puro Humidor arrived early, so several of us sat out in the sun on the new party patio enjoying gourmet cigars, laughing with our friends and savoring the good life.
A million thanks to the following CKCA members for attending and helping make this Drive & Dine so successful and so much fun: Steve Bernard, Lee Spence, Terry Dowers & Pam Shirley, Randy & Susan Puls, Curtis and Michele Nightingale, Rick Shoger and his sister Renee, and Scott and Tracy Patton. Y'all rock!!!
