A million thanks to all the CKCA members who attended our first-ever Drive & Dine (see attendee list below) – the weather cooperated nicely and it seemed like everyone had a great time!
It was gratifying to hear so many of you say that you had no idea of the existence of the Dyck Arboretum of the Plains up in Hesston – us central Kansas newbies are glad to have discovered something new for y'all! (And the turtles were very happy to see us. :)
And how fun was Karg Art Glass down in Kechi? What a lucky break that they were having their open house on the day that we planned our visit - being able to observe the glass blowers at work out back in the "hot shop" was a special treat. Be sure to check out the neat video produced by KAKE News linked below.
We had promised the good peeps at the Stearman Field Bar & Grill that we would pull onto the airport property at precisely 12:30 p.m. Well, after over three hours plying the highways and byways of central Kansas, and despite several planned stops along the way, our cool Corvette caravan ended up arriving exactly one minute early. Nice!
Thanks again, y'all. This was a ton of fun!

All Members:
Denise and I pre-drove the Drive & Dine route to Stearman Field Bar & Grill in Benton again last Sunday, 9/22. Per her request, we had already provided Lily Channel, General Manager, a firm headcount on Friday 9/20, but during our visit this past Sunday she said they could still easily accommodate a few more people in our group.
So: This is the last, last call for this Drive & Dine. If you're interested in going and aren't already on the list below, please reach out by noon Friday, 9/27/2024.
We will meet at Atwoods/Kwik Shop at 30th and Lorraine in Hutch at 9 a.m. Sat 9/28 and depart at 9:15.
We'll make a stop at the Dyck Arboretum of the Plains in Hesston to commune with the turtles, and we'll also be visiting Karg Art Glass in Kechi for their Open House, before arriving at Stearman Field at 12:30. (We'll also be stopping at Starbucks in Newton at approximately 10:45 to allow Jack and Lora to rendezvous with us.)
NOTE: Lily has obtained permission for us to park on the grass adjoining the runway next to the restaurant at Stearman Field, and as such we MUST all arrive together at 12:30 and park as a group. If you do not travel with our group and arrive at Stearman Field late, you'll be required to park in their regular parking lot. No exceptions, please.
