Over 40 members and one guest attended last night’s CKCA meeting.
Members were reminded to pick up their “Corvettes at the Cos” CD’s (several still remain), dash cards, pre-ordered apparel and ball caps. We have several sizes of men’s & women’s black polo shirts in stock and 6 black ball caps, 6 black visors and 2 white visors; they make great Christmas gifts. If you would like to order t-shirts or sweatshirts, please let me know; we need to order a combined quantity of 12 items and we have 4 currently ordered.
Fred Johnson reminded members that dues are currently ‘past due’ and John Denny doesn’t receive your payment by November 28, you will not be a member of NCCC; at year end you will be dropped from CKCA and removed from the email and membership roster. If you’re not rejoining, please notify someone and we’ll kindly remove you from the lists at the end of the year. We’d love to have you remain a member, however we understand membership isn’t for everyone.
Jim Gruver reported that he will be representing CKCA Saturday night at the “Wine in the Wild” event at Prairie Dunes. The event is a fundraiser for the new Otter Exhibit at the Hutchinson Zoo. A representative from Midway Motors will be attending with Jim. CKCA has raised around $22,000 the past 2 years from the Vettes & Harleys Show at the Zoo and around $2,000 from the 1976 Corvette Give-away for the Otter Exhibit. Friends of the Zoo board chairman Tom Dooley would like to recognize CKCA for the funds we’ve helped raise. Jim will be presenting a check to Tom in the $24,000 range. Jim, thanks again for your efforts… we know you’ve devoted a lot of time to this great cause.
November 22 Drive & Dine – Cy’s Hoof & Horn, Sedgwick. Hosts Randy & Susan Puls reported that 31 people have RSVP’d for the drive & dine. RSVP deadline is Monday, November 17. Should be a fun event.
December 6 Christmas Party - Activity Coordinators Linda Barkley and Debbie Gruver led a discussion concerning the Christmas Party at the Hutchinson Downtown Sampler (2nd Floor First National Bank building). The party will begin at 6:00 pm, BYOB (beer or liquor), set-ups provided by the Downtown Sampler. Attire is casual (whatever you’re comfortable wearing, however we request you at least wear something J); CKCA members only, no children. Member costs will be determined soon, however we’re going to keep them to a minimum. We’re thinking something less than $10 per person with the club picking up the additional charges. Linda and Debby are checking into a buffet dinner to see if that might lower the cost. We’ll send a RSVP request email with the costs in the next couple of weeks.
Jim Gruver also invited Rod Run volunteers to an appreciation dinner at the Downtown Sampler tomorrow night at 6:00 pm. Several CKCA members volunteered and are invited to attend.
The October 18 Drive & Dine to Stafford/St. John was featured in the Wednesday, October 22 “The Stafford Courier” newspaper. Bill Westfahl passed around a copy of the article.
Jack and Lora Martin brought their ’66 Chevy II for display before and after the meeting. Members were also able to check out the 1930 Texaco Tankwagon truck on display in Kevin’s building (owned by a Topeka friend of Kevin’s). Several members lead by Kevin were able to act like kids again and stomp on the newly installed ‘driveway bell’ hose; ding ding! ding ding! If you would like to bring a ‘special’ vehicle (it doesn’t have to be a corvette) to a future CKCA meeting, please contact Jack Martin to make arrangements. The next opportunity will be at the January 12, 2015 meeting.
For Sale! Byron McNicle has a set of 4 used C-5 tires for sale – reply if interested and I’ll get you in touch with Byron.
A special ‘thank you’ to Wayne and Marcia Strawder of Wayne’s Printing & Copying of Hutchinson. They provided each member in attendance with a 11” x 17” colored photo of the September 20 “Corvettes at the Cos” event (see attached photo). We still have several of them available; please let me know if you’d like me to save one for you.
Believe or not, Wayne Strawder won the 50/50 pot splitting a whopping $33.00. Hey Wayne, who’s going to win the Super Bowl?
Note: No December meeting
We’ll see you at the Drive & Dine on November 22 and at the Christmas Party on December 6.
Stay warm.
