Grumpy's March 2015
A posse of Corvettes (23) departed South Hutchinson on March afternoon. Wayne and Marcia Strawder led the posse on a drive west around Cheney Lake, then south on Highway 14 through the metropolis of Murdock and then to Grumpy’s Steakhouse in Kingman. Grumpy and his crew were ready for our group of 50 people. Everyone enjoyed the great food and service. A special thanks to Wayne & Marcia for hosting the outing and for picking perfect driving weather.

McPherson Drive & Dine
Our thanks to Dennis Tucker for leading our group of 13 Corvettes, including guests from Great Bend driving a white 1977, to McPherson.
Darwin and Nadine Henry, and Brent and Julie Milleson met us at Knackies. After a BBQ buffet, the Milleson’s invited the members to their home for further conversation and refreshments. Several drove the few blocks to enjoy the Milleson’s hospitality and tour of their Frank Lloyd Wright style home, many of the features crafted by Brent.

Flint Hills
10 CKCA Members and 1 guest participated in the 2-Day Cruise around NE Kansas and through the Flint Hills. The group met early Saturday morning and traveled east on the beautiful Smoky Valley and Gypsum Valley Roads to Alta Vista, Kansas and toured the Kansas Ag Heritage Park Museum. The second stop was the Sommerset Hall Café in Dover, Kansas where we enjoyed lunch and one of the largest slices of homemade coconut cream and apple-crisp pie on record. Our next stop was an old Skelly gas station in Topeka where the owners (Jim and Judy) treated us to some nostalgia. We fueled up in Topeka and then departed on one of the most 'historic' drives in CKCA history (probably ever). Darwin and Nadine Henry led the Corvette caravan east on highway 40 towards Clinton Lake (southwest of Lawrence) through Eudora, then back to Tonganoxie and Oskaloosa (and many other small towns I've never heard of), then to the Perry Lake area and our final destination, 'The Barn' in Valley Falls (17 miles north of Topeka). We had a great dinner at 'The Barn' and enjoy socializing and playing cards Saturday evening.
After breakfast we traveled to Lincoln, Nebraska (no, just kidding); we did head north of Valley Falls and then back west on highway 16 and eventually meandered our way to Junction City. After a much deserved rest stop, we departed and traveled on old highway 40 through Abilene and on to Salina where we enjoyed the best little hamburgers this side of the Mississippi. Seriously, 'The Cozy Inn' burgers are simply mouth-watering and are world famous. We were met at 'The Cozy Inn' by CKCA members Fred and Jean Johnson who brought bottled water, chips and fresh cookies.
It was a great trip and a true 2-Day Cruise 'classic'. We traveled over 550 miles (at least I did) on some of the most beautiful highways in Kansas. A sincere thanks to Darwin and Nadine Henry for hosting the event. Darwin and Nadine put a lot of time into finding these great Kansas roads and planning a fun weekend.
Participants were:
Wayne & Marcia Strawder, Hutchinson
Ann Sturgeon, Hutchinson
Judy McFall (guest), Hutchinson
Ray & Audrey Wright, Salina
Jim & Debbie Gruver, Hutchinson
Kevin Brown, Hutchinson
Darwin & Nadine Henry, Salina

August 2015 Drive & Dine to Bentley
"We had 16 Corvettes and 30 attendees on Saturday. Traveled to Buhler, Burrton, Halstead and on to Bentley to the Corner Bar and Grill. I heard we were filmed going through Burrton but I missed it.
Had one long table and took over the place! Excellent wait staff worked hard and seemed to get everyone’s food within 45 minutes. Everyone seemed happy." Greg Gordon

Thanks to Joel Weide, Susan & Randy Puls for the good food at Oliver’s of Little River and the fun and beautiful drive through the Smoky Hills with photo stop at Kanopolis Lake. 40 people (18 Corvettes) enjoyed a great day!
