CKCA Road Trip:
• McPherson College Automotive Restoration Program •
McPherson, Kansas
November 4, 2023
• Hosted by CKCA Members Randy and Susan Puls •
Thanks to Randy and Susan Puls for organizing the tour of McPherson College’s Auto Restoration Program on November 4, 2023. Randy traveled every road with correction curves in McPherson County to our destination. Our guide had completed the program and was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic in answering our questions. They were excited to see our Corvettes fill the parking lot. After the tour, the lunch at Knackies Meats and Sweets was wonderful. They even had cheesy potatoes - yum!

Randy & Susan Puls organized a drive to McPherson College to tour their Auto Restoration Program, which was very impressive. On the way, most of us saw a lot of country we had never seen before as we wound our way to McPherson from Hutchinson, sometimes even heading south. Several of us were wishing we had more gas in the tank, but an enjoyable drive nevertheless.

Cradle of the Restoration Craft
This small school in rural Kansas grooms tomorrow’s automotive artisans

Where will we find the next generation of automotive restorers? It's easy to picture an eager young apprentice learning at the knee of a grizzled old panel-beater, and indeed that does still happen. But an increasing number of these future artisans come from a small liberal arts college on the windswept Kansas plain—and many of them are eagerly snapped up by some of the country's finest restoration shops.
