All members –
It has taken some effort, but on Tuesday of this week, we - Susan and Randy Puls, and Denise and I - have temporarily regained possession of a treasure trove of CKCA-related "artifacts" that had been donated to the club by Jean Johnson, wife of past CKCA president and NCCC governor Fred Johnson, upon his passing in 2022.
These artifacts, thanks to quick thinking on Susan and Randy's part at the time, were collated and donated to the Reno County Museum for safekeeping. The artifacts are now, temporarily, in mine and Denise's possession while we begin the satisfying task of documenting these items and transferring this information to the club website.
Fred was a well-respected member of the club (as was Jean). The items they collected over the years offer a clear look into how near and dear their involvement in our club was to them, and it is indeed an honor to be temporary custodians of this priceless collection.
Our job, in the coming months, is to inventory these items and begin the process of documenting and transferring this material – via photographs, digital scans, transcription (in the case of meeting minutes dating back to the early '70's, for example), etc. – to our website.
Denise and I have made it clear, since being handed the keys to the website earlier this year, that one of our primary goals as webmasters is to help further document the rich history of our club. It is, frankly, a privilege to do so.
If you have CKCA-related artifacts in your collection – one item or a hundred, new or old or in between – that you would like to see digitally-preserved for posterity on our website, please reach out.
• Printed materials, including photographs, will be digitally scanned and safely returned.
• Digital photographs sent to us via email (in the largest possible file size, please) are strongly encouraged.
• In both cases, captions – particularly dates and/or member names – are extremely helpful.
• Texted photographs are welcome but generally discouraged, due to the inherent file compression and subsequent loss of image quality.
• Items such as trophies, plaques, banners, patches, etc., will be documented, photographed and safely returned.
It's our understanding that some artifacts recently unearthed by past-president Kevin Brown are being brought to the next meeting. We would be pleased to document these items for our website, as well. [Edit 05/29/2024: Click HERE to visit this collection.]
Thank you.
Respectfully,
Gerald & Denise Haughton
